B class now sorted for the Mrs, but am having a dilemma for my next carriage.

Having driven and liked (a lot) an E320cdi Sport (harsh ride!?!.....nooo, try an RX8 !!) and decided to get one and chip it for a little more oomph, the E63AMG's have now caught my eye. As a previous e39M5 owner, and current RX8 owner, and with the relatively low mileage I do, (8-10k pa) the lack of economy is not something that troubles me too greatly. Or at least that's what I keep telling myself.

I'd be looking at a 2006/7 model I suspect, circa 100k miles or so, for the fat end of 20k.

Any opinions on these cars? They look incredibly well specced, and I'm trying not to let that sound and insane power rule my head. So, am I mad? Would I be better with a cheaper, newer, lower mileage chipped 320cdi which will be half the running costs and probably retain it's value better, and is no slouch real world? Or ought I to indulge myself in some ozone destroying rubber munching monster while the government still allow me to do so?

Had owned an RX8 for about 4 years, and I've find the ride to be very good, better than 3 series, C63 AMG, 350Z etc, but still very nicely handled.

E63AMG will be very firm too, but the engine is worth the money alone.

No, you're not mad to contemplate an E63; you only live once...

For £20k you will be looking at average to low mileage E63's.

I've been looking at spending about £10-12k on an E55K, but as the E63's hurtle towards £15k I might hold off for a while and buy one of those.

ive got one, 2007 45k miles for about that price. its a good car the engine is the best thing about it, though i do miss the instant oomph of the supercharged engine in my CLS55 AMG.
The economy is about the same, they weigh slightly less.
I had the resonator removed for the sound and had it put back on, i really didnt like it and the sound is awesome anyway.

I can testify that Steve's car sounds awesome, especially when first firing.

Just horney:o

If running costs weren't an issue I'd take the E63 in a heartbeat. They seem amazing value for money now, so, if you have the dosh to run it, go for it! :D

No youre not mad :) Had the same dilema and ended up with a C63 estate. Fascinating relationship, love the performance and the sound, hate the economy but as others said, you only live once :)

Drove a W211 2005 E55K AMG few weeks ago, savage machine, £10>12K gets you a good one, lots on the web...:)

Get an estate, take all the badges off. Then one of the best cars on the road and you get the benefit of the look on sportscar drivers faces as the family estate leaves them for dead.

Until the first corner....

I saw a stunning e55 estate yesterday...I'm gonna get one, to hell with economy !!!

Another 'am I mad?' thread - I'd like to think I've started a craze. :bannana:

Why would you de-badge an AMG :dk:.

It's the top of it's tree, loud and proud.

Sure it flexes it's muscles when baiting sportscars, but when badged it flexes it's muscles all the time, everywhere, whether parked, cruising or letting others eat it's dust.

A bit like getting a date with Claudia Schiffer (happens all the time to me) and sticking a bag on her head.

Back to the OP - go for it :thumb:

I like Q cars, I like something that isn't all shouty look at me.

I think that's why I like the E500's.

The E55 AMG with all it's badges is a WWF wrestler (or whatever they're called now) all shouting drama, but the E500 - that is more like a 6 dan black belt in Karate wearing a Saville Row suit, it had no reason to shout because it knew it could give anything else a pretty good hiding if it needed to.

So take the badges off the AMG, perfect compromise.

E63AMG will be very firm too, but the engine is worth the money alone.

in Comfort on Airmatic DC, it will be not be too firm at all
