Guys advise needed please
Nearly done with restoring my early s55
All was done ready for the last check, before coming home…..no joy. Car didn’t want to start
Plugged Star in, change gear selector module it gave us
Well, found a company which refurb those, sent it off they came back with an update-no fault found? Couldn’t get a conversation out of them at all
Question 1 , if I buy a second hand one - do I need to code it to the car?
Question 2 , if I bake it in the oven for 6 mins at 200 degrees- will I get donuts or it will work for a bit? Heard they are “drying out with time
Question 3 , does anyone know a wizard who can help?
Thank you guys

Update,
Car is fixed now.
As there is little information out there and it’s a quite common issue let me give a quick solution.
1. If someone tells you to buy a set from another vehicle, ignition switch, gear selector and engine ecu - don’t do it
2. If someone tells you to buy second hand one and code it - don’t do it
3. If someone tells you to send the faulty gear selector for repairs - don’t do it

All above will set you back around the same money as a new part from the dealer (you may save few quid…not worth it).new Part is around 700£ including vat.
Most important thing….you don’t need any coding once new part is installed!!!! You need a Mercedes Diagnostic Tool, with software not older then 3 years old, and it’s a plug and play. Install the part and it only needs an authorisation through Star. That’s it!!!
Hope this helps
