Anybody out there know where the E/S switch on a W124 auto gets its supply from ?
There is no difference in the gear change revs in either setting.
I've read somewhere that this switch operates a solenoid valve so maybe the valve is duff - where is this valve and is it a job to access ?
Finally where can I get a W124 Haynes type manual - car is W124 E Class 220 estate. 1993
Cheers..........Hugh

The Haynes manual is stocked at Halfords and no doubt larger booksellers.

Can't help you otherwise. The info will be in those wiring diagrams I can't understand; they're in the PDF manual that's out on the Web somewhere.

More likely the switch is up the creek, I think.

This is a fairly common problem IIRC, there are various threads on how to replace/repair. The switch is labelled "S/W" (standard/winter) on some other models.

The most obvious sign of whether it's working or not is starting off in 2nd rather than 1st gear in E/W mode.

Thanks for the reply, but I've been told Haynes did not do a manual for the W124 E Class of '94

Haynes do a manual for vehicles up to 93. Most of the info is relevant to your car except perhap the engine details

Look on fleabay for the manuals - they are out there. Also the Brookland manual for about £25 too.
