Hi All, Brief history is the purchase of a 2001 C200 Kompressor 4 weeks ago and all seemed good. Then last week I have instrument cluster failure and resistance to start off the key, often 4 or 5 times before it will turn over. I took the car to an Indy who said he thought it was ignition unit failure or fault but his diagnostics unit wouldnt read all the codes and I would need to put it in the dealers to find out, as he did his code reading FOC.

Main dealer calls and says there's oil contamination in the ECU and needs a new wiring harness with a £2000 parts only quote so far not including labour, on a car that only cost me £1000. I appreciate its a case you bought what you paid for but is there a sensible solution eg less than £700 to get the car running safe and reliable enough to enjoy my first Mercedes after a long list of BMW`s. thanks in advance J.

You need a new loom and oil blocker regardless. You maybe able to get the ECU repaired. Google ACTronics.

Hi JJay, did you get a better deal? I'm interested as I have the same issue.

Tin of brake cleaner
Oil blocker loom section
Cam magnet

Don't waste your money on new loom/Ecu it's really not needed and will end up costing more than the car is worth.
