Editing video files.

I have a stack of .MPG files, as a result of transferring a collection of 20+year old videos to my hard disk. No problem, so far... but the files are up to 4GB!

But I now have to edit them. Remove some duplication, move sections from one file to another, and re-ordering scenes, make the films flow properly.

What do I need to do this, I guess I'll need some software, but what? Windows 7 has a DVD maker, but it wont let you edit the individual files.

Anyone any advice, it will be gratefully received....

Theres plenty of programs out there varying from £50 to £500, but try the microsoft freebie

You may find this page useful.

I haven't tried any of them, but I wouldn't expect many frills. An alternative plan is to download free trial versions of the main editors and see how far you get before the trial period runs out.

Ones to try would be Adobe Premiere Elements, MPEG Video Wizard DVD, and Cyberlink Power Director.

As long as you don't need to do more creative stuff, I like Womble's DVD Wizard, but my preference at the moment is for:

TMPGEnc - Products: TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress Product Information

If you need to be more creative, I would look at Sony Vegas or Pinnacle Studio 12.

I use this with 8 yr olds and gcse level students.

It will do everything you request and more.
