Hi everyone. I am new to Mercs and to this forum and have some questions for all you experts out there. I bet you dont need to be one to answer them but they certainly require more expertise than I have. I have just bought a 2001 w210 240 and have a malfunction with the front fog light. The bulb is not working and I would guess just needs changing. My questions are:
Is any local garage able to do this rather than me paying extortionate amounts of money at the main dealer? If I had it done at Mercedes how much do you think they will charge me?
If a local garage did it (assuming that they can of course), does the car realise that the bulb is no longer faulty and lose the malfunction message? Or does it need to be reset - in which case I bet Mercedes have to do this?

I know this box standard stuff for you all and I am bound to get some responses to suggest doing it myself - but you know what its like with a 'new' car and not wanting to make things worse than they are already!!

Please help - thank you.

Herbie

When you change the bulb and turn the ignition on and off then on again the faulty bulb light should have gone out. Anyone can change the bulb and I'd have a go yourself before letting MB bill you!

put a bit of carpet / old big cardboard box on the floor under the front. lie on it. use a torch (small ones are good for this) and find a small access hatch / panel. open it. look inside for a bulb or rubber / plastic cover behind the fog light. fog light bulbs are usually held with a spring clip about the thickness of a paper clip.

bulb changing might be in the handbook?

(though I haven't actually looked myself, or if the foglight has one of those easy access 'ports' which just twiddle off allowing you to change the bulb... sometimes bulb access can be a right pain in the back facade, especially front lamps)

Thanks guys - sounds too good to be true!!! Changing the bulb will put reset the warning system as well right? I guess the last reply was a little sarcastic - or is the way I read it? This was meant to be a serious question - all replies welcomed. Does anyone know of a Mercedes specialist that they can recommend in the Leicester area without me having to take out any further loans for work on the car?????

Yes changing the bulb will reset the malfunction message.

Any garage will do it for you, why pay MB Dealer prices.
