Hi, I need some help on an issue on my car, the car will start up and drive what appears to be fine except its in limp mode so it will drive but I have no kick down and its slugish this all happens with no engine management light on.

So I get my engine management/reset tool plug it in and it brings up the p1402 code but not as a stored code but a pending code. If I erase the pending code p1402 I have full drive back ie its no longer in limp mode it drives perfect. I can drive it all day and it wont bring up any pending codes or stored codes. However if I turn the engine off and restart the engine then its back in limp mode untill I reset it, then its fine till I start it again.

Ive changed the EGR valve Ive cleaned out the throttle body which some call the EGR, its linked to inlet and the EGR intercooler. (Next job will be to clean out the EGR Intercooler)

Still the issue is there.

Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks

Mike

I thought this site had experts.....

Over 200 people have viewed my thread, but no one has the knowledge to answer it, I must have been misinformed about this site I thought it had experts......?

It has experts but we are all busy people.

Your scan tool won't really help. You need to have it diagnosed with a Star. Live data is what is needed. Codes are only half the info.

I dont know anyone with a star machine or any indie merc people, need a garage who is in the know not ones that guess

That is precisely why BlackC55 (Olly) has said you need a good Merc Indie with Star diagnostic equipment. We don't know where you are based, which deters people from recommending anyone, but Black55 is highly thought of by Merc owners on these forums if you're anywhere near him.

In in Huddersfield West Yorkshire, I have found an indie in Leeds Im calling them tomorrow see what they say they have the STAR machine.

Thanks again

Update

Rang the Mercedes Indie Garage today but weren't convinced by what I heard I've been to so called Experts Specialists before and I may have just thrown my money away! I'd Love to find the expert/specialist who is prepared to put there money where there mouth is.........

I'm willing to pay a good fee as long as the problem is diagnosed and repaired not second guessed or throw good money after bad!

Well from the advise on here I went to an Indie Merc Garage and the so call Star machine was plugged in and with £65 spent I thought Id be wiser to the issue but once again so called experts checked prodded and poked my car for an hour only to tell me what I already know.

they are asking me to spend £300 on an EGR valve which I know isn't faulty as Ive put a second hand one on which worked fine on the car it came from.

Im going to have to perceiver with this issue my self

Thank YOU Experts!

i know this is an old post but my m8 has the same problem. EGR valve been ruled out. so its a bit of a head scratcher and i dont want him paying £38 for a STAR diagnostic garage to tell him it needs an EGR valve when it actually doesnt coz its also been ruled out by fitting a working one from a working car that has no problems.
DID YOU EVER HAVE ANY PROGRESS ON YOUR PROBLEM WAY BACK THEN?

I doubt he did with his attitude.
