Electric fan on outside of radiator.

Agreed, but not as much as a black one;)
good point especially when you park it in gloucester with its chronic seagull problems. thought someone had nicked my black granada until i realised the gulls had given it a respray for me.

I've already cleared things up with ian(i hope) in a pm so lets say no more on the matter. and as for silver cars, there seems to be far too many on the road these days. In my experience they show the dirt up too easily.

Problem solved, no offence taken or intended. As for sil....silv...dull chrome, Only one I have seen that I would humble myself to park in my drive would be Grav's E55. Once travelled in never forgotten. :bannana: :bannana:

while were on the topic of electric fan for the a/c rad could someone confirm with me if its supposed to be on all the time when the a/c is running. the reason i ask is my 260e has 2 fans on the front rad and ec but when the a/c is on the compressor works intermittently and the fans only cut in when the engine reaches a certain temp but the aircon works fine as it blows out ice cold air. one of my mechanics told me that there was a problem with the a/c system as the fans should be running at all times when the a/c is on. is this true?

The compressor will cut out to prevent over cooling because it is trying to maintain a set temp in the cabin.
My A/C has a snowflake button and a single fan. The fan only runs when the engine is hot.

thanks for that info, from what you have told me your car has a aftermarket system fitted but i guess it must be generic for all cars with a/c. my assumption was the same with the fan cutting in when it gets very hot.

If your car HAS got A/C then it will have 2 radiators. The normal coolant rad plus the A/C rad.
The A/C won't run if the interior fan is not running. With the engine running, turn the interior fan on/off and see if the RPM changes a little (say 150 RPM). If so then the A/C compressor is cutting in/out OK.
I checked this out while on the daily commute and theres is a slight dip in revs when turning the int fan on and off beyond setting 1 so i think it must be working. roll on the summer (that 3 days in july) so i can appreciate its cooling abilities properly. Thanks once again for your help people.

My old C180 (1996) had aircon from new, but when it went wrong, MB couldn't fix it as it was put in as an extra by DIAVIA and therefore not an MB part, but aftermarket:crazy:
