Electric window motor committed suiside?

I don't usually open the windows in my E Class. So, when I pressed the button to open it, smoke came out of the door and the window no longer works. Presumably, after 12 years of easy life, the window motor decided that it had enough and committed suicide.
In my previous cars, I did not hesitate to dismantle the innner part of the door and, perhaps, replace the motor. But, there is an airbag in the door, and I am worried in case I disturb it while dismantling.
Anything to watch out for?

No you should be fine taking the door card off, make sure you dont turn the ignition/turn the key while the air bag is disconnected and you are working on the door as you may cause a fault light to appear which can only be removed with Star.

Front or rear?

The air bag wont need unpluging .
The wondow regulator is held on with 6 pop rivets ,and a tx30 fixes the window to the regulator .

Thank you for the information :thumb:
