Electric window sticking - help!

I've just bought a 98 CLK 320 and noticed that the drivers side window occasionally stuck but if I went all the way down and back up again it was fine but today, when I really needed to do some Chrismas shopping, it wouldn't close.

In the end I had to just give up and drive home and guess what... the bl00dy thing closed as soon as I got on my drive.

I think it thinks something is trapping it as it drops a bit. If I keep my finger on the switch, it just grinds to a halt and then I can hear clicking in the door as if it's still trying to close.

I assume something needs lubricating. I'm just hoping it's not the pockets of my local MB dealer.... Is there anything a mechanical numnuts such as myself do anything about this?

As ever, any help is very much appreciated.

These windows will stop and go back down 100cm if they detect an object or if the track is too tight. First thing lubricate the track with Silicon and see what happens. If there is no free play with the glass in the tracks, you may have to back them off o touch

Thanks Telly (or am I being over familiar? ;))

I assume I have to take the door card out for that or can I just squirt WD40 down the sides?!

Of coarse not:D WD40 is not a lubricant, PTFE is the best, but silicon is good, this very cold weather does not help.

If the above fails, but I do not think it will, the the door card has to come off to adjust

So I can literally just spray some stuff (NOT WD40!) down the sides?

Thanks a lot for your help. I'll give it a try if I can get out of doing any xmas shopping this weekend.
