Electronics problems after Service?

I have noticed that my car's electronics don't work properly nearly every time my car (E220 CDI - 52) goes in to Mercedes for service.

I then have a lot of problems trying to get things fixed, until the next service......

I was wondering if I am just unlucky or other people have similar problems?

Electrical items are generally untouched at service.

After the 1st service, my ASP50 (Radio/Nav) system would switch off after a few minutes and then switch back on again.

The aircon would not respond to any of the buttons

These and others (can't remember all as it was couple of years ago) I managed to get fixed by contacting customer services, Mercedes Romford then changed the whole APS50 unit and everything was fine until the next major service.

Now my key won't unlock the car a lot of the time, I have to use the manual key to open the door and reset the alarm by putting the key in the ignition.

Mercedes Romford say it's not their fault as they didn't do anything electronic, I just find it difficult to believe as I had no problems with the car until it went in for service.

My E-Class is from the 1st batch and I wonder if that is the problem?

I think that this has come up before, I have known car have problems when they have been hooked up to STAR and either exited incorrectly or things have changed.
Though there was nothing listed on this car, many people have problems when the key is left in for long periods, this is on cars with EIS switches.

What do you think Black C55

I can handle paying to get problems fixed from wear and tear and my own faults, but when the car has been with Mercedes I don't expect to get it back with new problems introduced for which I have to pay for.

I have emailed customer services couple of time now, but no reply at all.

Anyone got the address or a contact at Mercedes who migth listen to customer's complaints?

I can say that servicing a car will not cause these issues you have. The early 211 e-class is full of electrical issues.

Have you tried your spare key?

Yes, tried new batteries and the spare, same problem.

Is it worth persuing with Mercedes to get this fixed? I am really annoyed with the service from Mercedes, I think a very good product is let down by the lack of aftersale care and support.

It is probably a radio aerial problem.

I thing persuing MB will be fruitless as a service will unlikely effect you CL.

The radio amp only affects the long range, not the short IR circuit.

On the other point, could it not be that you operate within the guide lines and others that do not understand do not.

I have know of at least 15 cases of where troubles have started from a service or work done

I have now had a reply to my email, but not a very helpful reply I may add, they have said that they can't offer me any financial assistance because the car is now out of warranty  , I didn't ask for any financial assistance, I only want them to fix what in my opinion they broke :(

Will see what happens in the end, maybe I'll get it fixed from an independent and buy a BMW instead

Are the later E-Class models any better with electronics or are they same? I do like the E-Class but I'm getting so fed up with having to deal with these stupid problems, as these kind of things should not be happening.

Rumour has it that the 211 has more than it's share of electrical problems, forums are a great place to have a quick moan about these issues and as you can guess I have a vested interest in any problems related to the 211 and I think it fair to say that the 211 does NOT suffer anymore than any other modern Mercedes. The law of averages will surely dictate that the more electrical gadgets a car has, the more chance you have of something going wrong? When I used to look at all the Lexus service bulletins the majority related to electrical updates. If you think the grass is greener elsewhere then good luck to you, but I believe the 211 is an excellent vehicle. (not that I'm biased)

Good luck with getting your problems resolved
Regards
John

My car is now dead, no power what so ever, I have not used it for few days, tried to open it today and used the manual key to get in and no alarm etc. and no power.

Looks like my battery has drained by it self or a fuse is blown.

Anyway to check which it is?

It will be the battery that needs charging

There have also been a number of bulletins regarding seepage on the 211 but I am NOT suggesting this is the cause.

Good luck
John
