Can someone please tell me the main differences between the AVANTGARDE and the ELEGANCE models of Mercedes?
I am seriously considering partXing my BMW for a secondhand Merc, either a E320CDI or a CLK320. Have not started looking properly yet but notice that the new models of Elegance or Avantgarde seem to be the same price.
Someone please tell me the difference.
Patrick.

Elegance is more Comfort, Wood Chrome etc
Avantgarde is more Sporty, Lower Suspension,Carbon Fibre trim etc

I'm sure others will go into abit more detail but i hope ya get the idea ;)

the avantgarde is always worth a little more. for some reason.

I personally prefer the Brown wood. Its down to your own taste. Diferent strokes for diferent folks ..

Avantgarde will have stiffer suspension and a diferent alloy and maple wood. The elegance will have a more supple ride and brown walnut wood. Apart from that , the specs will be almost identicle.

Hi

Exterior on Classic & Elegance has standard spoilers, Avantgarde has sports spoilers

;)

W211 Avantgarde has:-

Alloy 5 Spoke wheels 7.5J x 16 (225/55 tyres)
Bi-Xenon headlamps and washers
Birds eye Maple wood trim
Part leather upholstery
Sun Visors with illuminated vanity mirrors - extendable
Tinted Blue Glass

I ve owned W210 elgance and now avantgarde....e300td and 320cdi repsectively....

The avantgarde handles much better, less roll, better turn in, brakes better, and though stiffer, ride is better in my opinion, handles speed humps much better, which is surprisingly important in London! I would say get Avantgarde spec everytime.

True! Also the A/G W211 models ride slightly lower than the standard Classic or Elegance, have better front & rear spoilers plus pretty good looking side skirts. Alloys it comes with are about the best of the bunch for standard fit as well.

I have a E320Cdi A/G Estate in Tealite Blue. Last week came home late and wondered for a moment in my confused state why my wife had parked on the road and which b'staad had nicked my mudflaps, until I sussed it was an E270Cdi Elegance Estate also in Tealite blue. Would loved to have parked up my car alongside and taken comparison piccies, but it was getting dark, I had taken too much drink and the vehicle moved off a few minutes later, but the Elegance just looked to me like it was lacking something.

So, in my humble and very deeply biased opinion at least, taken together with extra kit like Xenons, less body roll and the standard half leather making the full leather option cheaper and different interior finish, all this makes the Avantgarde for me the better choice.

Only thing wanting on the A/G is that the blue tinted windscreen really should have a shade band. Never worked out why it does not.

I agree with you there Satch, I think the Avantgarde looks much better inside and out, and the Xenons and Alloys make it worth the extra money alone.

Can't say I'm bothered about a shade band though.

You remarks are an object statement of fact!

....oh yea, I have an Avantgarde too heheheheh

I sense a poll coming on. Admins?

Ok I have tinted windows, Xenons, full leather, yet I drive an elegance. Ok it does have more body roll but if you are looking at used cars it has to be down to the spec of the specific car you are looking at.IMHO
