C180 classic se 4 door automatic
Hi. I have this car. C180 classic se. Petrol automatic. 5 door . 2005 with 79k on the clock.

I was driving when the car slowed down almost to a stop. I pulled in and it did stop then cut out.

No warning lights are on all looks normal but it won't turn over. Same sound as if battery is dead. But all lights up pre ignition.

Help.

Thx

What happens when you turn the key?

Maybe your alternator died, and so the battery ran your ignition/ecu until that ran out...

You'd expect something on the dash, but I sat with my radio/lights, etc on for hours recently with the engine off, and it flattened the battery so I couldn't start it, and I didn't get anything abnormal on the dash, no battery light, nothing.

Yes when I turn the key it does everything as normal. Radio and all lights have plenty power.
But on the last turn of the key to start it just gives me one click. Nothing else. Almost if the engine has ceased.

Has it?

Check your oil level, and see if your electric windows seem laboured going up? Radio doesn't use much power, cranking an engine does, so see if your windows seem laboured, and check your oil. If you've had a major leak,it could well have seized.

Possibly a timing chain failure. Use the Forum's search option and search for C180 timing chain problems.

If a timing chain does go - is there any grace or is it curtains instantly?

Turn on the headlights then try starting. If the lights don't dim it could be the starter motor and/or the solenoid.
