Car is a CLK 2.0 convertible. Had the car fully serviced as wasnt running smoothly. Came on again. Took to garage and he had a look at it. Apprantly the mixture is too high. Reset the light and I drove it again. After an hours driving on the motorway the light came on again.
The car had one of the Lambda changed. Engineer thinks it may need the 2nd one changed. Is this a known problem?

I dont think its a known issue but if serviced by a main dealer then STAR should have told them exactly what is wrong on the sensor front as "guessing" to try and fix these things can be quite an expensive process!

IF the mixture was too high you do not just reset and drive off otherwise the light will come on again for obvious reasons.

How did he know the mixture was too high? If he used a diagnostic then it should have given him sufficient info to find the route cause.

Couple of questions:
Which labda sensor was changed? There is one off the exhaust manifold at the top and there is another further down the exhaust. From recolection I beleive the top one is more common to replace.

Does you car run otherwise okay? or can you smell oil?
My personal choise would be to investigate your MAF. Try unplugging it and see?

@A1EK The Lambda bank 1 was changed. Next time the light came on I had the error come up as shown in the attachment. Was suggested i have a full service as it was due.
Full service was completed. Lambda error wasnt coming up again. Drove car for few days...engine light came on again. Took it to the local indy garage. The error message was about the mixture being rich.
As no code given the garage couldnt advise me what needed changing.
Reset the light and i drove it again the light came on after an hours driving.
Sometime it shudders and doesnt run smoothly...other time its runs smoorhly.
Now the garage is saying i need to leave the car with them for 2 days so they can look at the air compressor.
