advice please .repetitive prob. on 202 kompressor (200 estate 05/01) every 4 weeks or so orange management light returns to brighten up my day!! gets reset & advice is the air mass meter is on its way!? 4years old 55k, is this usual does anyone have any experience/ advice...(out of warranty)..car runs great but a bit flat on soft acceleration from standing . never had this **** with the 124s GG

could be a ht lead? one of mine has deterioated and the engine management light kept coming on...
but then again air mass meter/MAF is a common fault on this car...

I'd go for MAF on the way out, especially as the car feels flat.

Hi,

Most likely MAF. But if the faultcode is pointing towards a 'lean condition', I would expect the secondary air valve to be faulty. This is a metal valve at the back of the engine/head on the matal pipe to the exhaust from inlet. When this valve fails, it leaks air both ways. Excess air in exhaust makes ECU think engine is running lean through lambda sensor. Unmetered air into inlet changes adaptations when more fuel is needed for specified mass air.

Thaks For The Replies & That Amazing Knowledge. Is This Valve Easily Replaceable?

Yes it is, but sometimes it is very tight due to the heat of exhaust.

Well worth looking at the auxillary air valve because if the motor shorts out it's Bye-Bye to the ECU.

Hi,

The valve I was talking about is vacuum operated. I might have named it wrong (Auxillary air valve was a VAG name for idle valve, this is not, it is more like an EGR valve), but it is a metal housing, round, about 2 inch dia and about 2.5 inch high, at the back of the head, above the bellhousing. But you are right, if a secondary air blower goes has a short, it can cause a few problems for some ECUs. But nowadays most cars have them fused. Some problems related to failure can be that the car will not drop into closed loop, therefore will not pass emission test and ultimately will contaminate the CAT. The old Ford Galaxy 2.0 petrol comes to mind where this is a common problem.

I'll stop pratteling.
