Any ideas on this one ? I'm thinking some sort of sensor or air fault ?

When starting the car, it will sometimes run like its only firing on 5 or 4 cylinders.
It runs the same upon acceleration as it does at idle.
Doesn't stop when idling, but has this ongoing regular misfire / lag. Especially notice when taking off, missing and surging.

Doesn't seem to matter if it's cold start or warm. But slightly more likely if warm.
On that topic, the car starts first time when cold, however may take two attempts sometimes when warm.

Stop the car and start it again, and it often fixes the problem and runs OK.
If it starts with the problem, it almost always stays that way until stopped and started again. Resetting something or getting new data for the engine to use ????

Not sure when it was last serviced, possibly 8,000 klm ago. But if it was plugs, leads or filters, why does it not happen all the time. And why does stopping it and starting it again normally fix it.
I have noticed that the air filter seems to be not bolted down underneath somewhere, it can be moved up and down on the passenger side.

?????

I seen people have this issue find its the MAF gone faulty

Cant be that since the car w126 300sel doesn't have one. Sounds like a high tension problem- plugs-leads- distributor cap ( prime candidate) - rotor arm. try renewing them.
