hi there again. my ml320 on a 51plate has got this really anoying missfire when i put my foot down on the motorway. i then have to switch the car of and back on again to make it run properly. ive read that it could be the air flow meter that is at fault but would like your comments before i buy one
thanx

oh and when i press the brakes in reverse i get a loud clang then all is fine

I have had the same problem for a couple of years on a clk 230. It's had a new maf and lambda sensor and air recirculation unit/flap. None of them have fixed the problem.

I take it into mercedes, they hook it up to star and clear the faults, they then spin it round the block without using the kickdown, and then return it to me and charge me £90.

I then drive home and use the kickdown on the motorway and the problem comes back. Thats happened twice now and I can't afford to keep going back so they can take £100 from me.

I try keep it under 4K Revs and then it doesn't go into 'limp mode'. If you do kick down or floor it the revs shoot all the way to the end and the car goes nowhere fast.

I personally think it want's a new auto box but they were not listening and said they don't just put in a new auto box for no reason and instead go off the faults.

The other faults if they can compare in anyway to yours are that the car must warm up for a good five minitues before setting off (otherwise the gears will not change).

The new replacement maf I got was the proper Mercedes Bosche one too and not an ebay replacement for £30. The other parts were genuine too apart from the lambda which was from eurocarparts.

how wierd is this ive just unplugged the airflow meter when the car was running and it didnt make the slitest diffrence to the engine it was as if it didnt exsist. oh and my car doesnt seem to have a check engine light coz it doesnt light up when u first turn the ignition on:dk:

Get it on a Star first. This will save you ££ in the long run.

ive just unpluged airflow meter and went for a drive the rpm went really high but didnt cause a misfire so i pulled over and the car cut out at low rpm. so i pluged it ack in all went well till i gave it some throttle then the misfire re appears

Problem fixed

SENT MY CAR TO J BENZ IN GOLBORNE WHO PUT IT ON A STAR MACHINE FOUND THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT TODAY. ONLY TOOK AN HOUR AN HALF.

My money is on the MAF after reading that. I'd be suprised if it was the crank sensor as when they fail (or start to fail) the engine will cut out as the ECU has no reference to engine position.

I will guess at MAF or air leak... :)

Don't Mercedes have Coil Pack problems like other makes ? A Coil Pack is a common cause of Mis-Fire on other makes but never really seen them mentioned here.

Have you got details of J Benz in Golbourne ? Sounds like he could be useful ;)
