Engine Oil Choice

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone could possibly advise me on the best engine engine oil for my CL500 (W215) It has recently been serviced by MB about two months ago now and according to the service schedule it states that they used Mobil 1 (5/30)

I have heard great things about Castrol Edge, has anyone else used this oil in their CL500.

A good quality synthetic oil should be fine as a top up. I'd be inclined to top up with Mobil1 though if that's what's in there, and switch to Edge at the next change.

Hi Dash1 i use shell helix A very good quality synthetic oil as recommended by MB

Its a bit pricey and because of that only a few good motoring shops stock it

Thank you very much for the replies and the info, much appreciated.

I will top up with the Mobil 1 for now and then possibly change to the best oil available at the next oil change on the service schedule.

Do you think that when I take it in for its next service, MB would object if I supply them with my own good quality engine oil?

I always supply my own oil. They will just ask that it meets the MB standard defined in your service book. I always supply MB229.5 which is the highest,
