Engine oil temp light

Hi all,
Since owning my CLK55 I have encountered a fault where the "oil temp warning reduce revs" is displayed on the dash. This has occurred in all conditions i.e. cold, wet, dry and hot.
The engine temp is good according to the water temp guage and after a short while or after a re-start the indicator is extinguished.
I have had it checked when I had the last service and was told that it was a faulty sensor and I think the diagnosis is correct.
I just wanted to know what you guys thought and what the probable repair costs would be?
Mac.

Have you been driving the car in a way that might cause the oil to overheat beyond the ability of the oil cooler?

Given the car, it's unlikely to be a case of hauling caravans over Lake District passes is it? ;)

Thank DieselE,
I forgot I posted this so didn't look back until today :o
Anyway, Sometimes the light comes on when just driving very sedately admittedly normally after the engine has been running for quite some time. (I think).
So I don't think I have been driving like a loon although sometimes I do have a play ;)
But the light doesn't seem to be linked to that.

Based on what you said above, it looks like the original diagnosis is probably the right one.
