Hi there, I class myself as a fairly good hobby mechanic, in the past Iv changed loads of engines in fords and vaxhalls mostly putting bigger lumps in for more power.

I gave up cars for a few years and am now a bit out of touch, when buying my Merc I just thought of it as a car to get from A to B, but now Iv got the tuning bug back and have spent lots of time and some cash sorting my motor out and I'm loving it!

But mine being a C200 W202 auto it's very slow! So I was wondering how hard an engine change would be? I know it's gonna be engine, box, loom, ECU, and probably most of the running gear, but I'm happy doing that, I would buy a compleat doner car (2.8 straight 6) to do the job, Iv seen them go for between £500 and £1000 on eBay, it'll depends on how straight forward the job would be? I know alot of you would say sell mine and buy a 2.8 but I really like mine and would like to keep it.
So how hard would it be if I had the donor car? Will the 2.8 motor fit straight in?

Cheers,
Sy.

What bout the 2.3 kompressor? Would that be more straight forward?

The consensus over many posts seems to be-- best to by another car with a bigger engine. On problem you come across on later cars is that many of the electronic units are coded to each other ignition switch, engine ECU and alarm/ immobiliser units This means its difficult sometimes to get them to talk to each other unless you transplant them all - no easy task as they can be located all over car.

Thanks mate, I thought this might be the case, it's a bit different than a RS turbo or Vauxhall nova lol, looks like I'm gonna have to start saving!

Cheers,

Hi,
What year is your car?

Probably be cheaper (and easier) just to buy the right engined car?! And transfer any bits over like your wheels, there are so many out there with alot of choice to wait for the right one :)
