EPC Failure. Does this "reset" things?

E300TD - No acceleration at all...

My 1998 E300TD has been superb for 150k miles but for the last month has been messing about. Problems are

Intermittent loss of Turbo power. All is fine and then without warning the turbo kick vanishes. It will stay broken for the rest of the journey, switching off and on makes no difference. Earlier posting suggested maybe a sticking wastegate. How do I check this please?

Stalls when pulling away. It idles perfectly but when pulling away gently from standstill it falters and often stalls. If I floor the throttle it's okay, but it gets a bit embarrassing at the traffic lights!

This morning while driving at 50mph the EPC light came on and I lost all power. It was idling okay but pressing the throttle did absolutely nothing, not even a stutter. Turned off and on a few times and it got going again

Any help gratefully received. Great forum by the way - I've learned loads this morning!

EPC Failure. Does this "reset" things

I have an earlier post saying that my E300TD had been playing up badly for a month or so. Loss of Turbo power, stalling when pulling away with low revs. This culminated in an EPC warning leaving me with no throttle whatsoever, although it was idling fine. Turned off and on a few times and it started up again.

Since this EPC warning everything is now completely as it should be (or better). Even the mileometer and clock matrix lights have come back after having been very dim. My question is, is this all coincidence, or does the EPC warning trigger some kind of reset of engine management errors, because that's exactly what it feels like

I suspect you had EDC failure as that refers to the diesel rather than petrol injection system.

You really need to have the codes read to be sure of the reason, however as you also had other electrical problems I would check the electrical system for bad connections before doing anything else.

The power loss was due to the ECU going into limp home mode due to whatever fault your car had.

Thanks Dieselman. I've booked in to Merc Care in Leeds to have the codes read. It happened again yesterday and it's definitely EPC.... strange
