ML270
Just went to pick up wife from shopping, approx 2 miles from home when on the way back the EPC light came on my dashboard and the engine revs went down to approx 1000 rpm.I immediately pulled over and switched off, then restarted the engine.Started fine but the EPC light intermittently went on and off for a minute or so then stayed off so I gently drove home. Was wondering if this has anything to do with my brake pad warning light that came on yesterday as the pads are now low, if so I can replace the pads and hopefully this will sort out the EPC issue.
So my question is really is would it be likely the the engine management system would cut in if there are brake pads that needs replacing.I fear that these two are not related and that I will need to get a full diagnosis next week from my local diagnostic specialist and there is something more serious with the vehicle.
Any views welcomed.

Simple things first-- replace the pads and see if the problem goes away? You need to replace them anyway- its a no brainer . The vehicle stability control which uses the brakes and electronic throttle among other things to control the vehicle may have registered the brakes had flagged a fault so possible that's the cause.

I just had a wheel sensor go on an ML350cdi, the abs and srs warning came up, and when searching all I could find was info on the W163, seemed this is a pretty common falt, and is again wheel sensor from memory.

Just search google, there is pages of info, all seem to point to a pretty easy/cheap fix.

The EPC is the Electronic Power Control. It is most likely associated with the fuel system. Could be a partially blocked fuel filter; Water in the fuel/filter or a fault in an injector/ high pressure fuel pump that is causing a pressure loss.

I got this fault in my 220 CDI several weeks ago. My car was actually impossible to restart without easy start and I could not accelerate at a normal rate without the engine cutting out.
The problem was a newly reconditioned injector that had blown the internal seal.

Completely missed he said EPC, about 5 times as well!
Read brakes and then my brain saw ESP.

Well I replaced the brake pads and the epc light has stayed firmly off so the problem appears to be fixed-fingers crossed!!!
