my c220 CDi on a 57 plate has the ESP light on after further investigation i found that a rat had been into the engine bay and chewed the ESP wire so i got another wire and soldered it in but the light has not gone off. The car is now only running in some kind of safe mode and has no kickdown. any ideas what the wire from the loom is called as i used random wire which obviously hasnt done the trick i have been advised that i can use, phone wire or alarm cableing has anyone else had this problem and how did you solve it.:wallbash:

Can't really see why the type of wire should affect your fix providing you used something reasonably similar, but you may need to get the fault cleared to reset the light ............ providing the rat did not have a nibble at another wire somewhere else!

Try resetting the steering angle sensor.

Start the engine, and simply turn the steering wheel from end to and a couple of times.

If you have been driving the car with a broken and repaired ESP wire, the system still may not know where the steering is pointing. Refreshing its memory is quick and simple and may help. It certainly won't do any harm.

how would you recommend refreshing its memory as we had it put on a computer but the light remains on.
