Euro-roadtrip

Thank you everyone for your great input!

My w124 is in very good shape, it was born in southern germany (no rust), and then imported to Denmark about 10 years ago by a Mercedes mechanic
who has been taking REALLY good care of it.

With regards to the time limit, well me and my mates have all just finished what i think is equivalent to A-levels, so we can take practially as much holiday as we want, or we can quit.. So between 1-2 months is what I'm thinking? Is that realistic with the route sketched out below?

I've read alot of bad things about polish roads too, so how about scrapping the whole eastern part and using more of steve's suggestions (post #0) and your suggestions,
ie going to spain and northern italy instead? Maybe something like:
Eurotrip2.png

The rough waypoints for the route above are:
Aarhus, Denmark
Amsterdam
Paris
Bordeaux
Isaba
Barcelona
Millau-viaduct
Gorges Du Verdon
Cannes
Nice
Garda lake
Bratislava (slovakia)
Salzburg (austria)
Reiden (schwitzerland)
Berlin
Aarhus, Denmark

It would be a nice drive if you went along the SW of Hungary (Pecs) before Slovakia

Oh, and I'll cancel paris, add in le mans, and of course the merc HQ in stuttgart on the way home!

RE Stuttgart: Of course - show them what a proper car looks like!

1 to two months. Do the whole lot, that route needs extented into Italy and more of Spain if you have one to two months.

That looks much better to me.
I'm SO jealous. You will have an adventure of a lifetime.

Edit: as *** says, I would drop further into Italy. The scenery and people are wonderful.
And the women. The women are gorgeous.

Do not be put off polish roads. Poland has been spending lots of (EU) money on their road network and it is now nowhere near as bad as some people would have you believe. Admittedly the polish drivers are a different matter but provided you keep to speed limits and do not try to overtake in an adventurous manner on single carriageway (1+1) roads, it will all be OKAY. I say keep Poland.

If you haven't already done so, bear in mind that for some countries you will have to buy a Vignette. Buy one in advance or you could risk a hefty one the spot fine. They are needed for travel on motorways only, but in the case of Switzerland, try getting across it with going on what the Swiss define as a motorway. Austria allows you to buy a vignette at a modest price for only 10 days - the Swiss will charge you for a whole year, even if you only use the motorway once.

I've done a fair bit of touring in France and all the bordering countries - you will have a great time.

The Polish roads are actually very good nowadays - anything you've read is probably very old. They used to be a nightmare 15-20 years ago, nowadays it's all funded by EU road-building budgets and they're in a generally great condition. Go through the Tatras, you'll love it :-)
