Ever removed exhaust tips for re-chroming?

Hi

I put a post up in the wanted section for an old exhaust or just exhaust tips for a W211 E55k (not much joy there) just wondered if anyone has ever removed the exhaust tips and sent them away for re-chroming and then refitted them?

As far as I know the E55 tips are welded in place, not sure how you would go about having them removed and refitted.

I'm sure they are welded but that's not the end of the world if they are only spot welds.

Local stainless steel fabricator and replace with polised St/St much more servicable.

No can do............... I'd lose the AMG logos!

im sure any decent exhaust place would unweld them for you, will defo need to drop the exhaust to do it properly tho!

How bad do they look currently?

Try shinney sinks on them brings stuff up a treat.

AMG tips are already made from SS as is the rest of the rear exhaust

They are not too bad but I am very picky. Only a re-chrome will do really as some of the chrome has peeled off.

Yes I would very much like the Tips on the CL Re- Chromed. When Olly fits the Braided Brake Lines on Friday I wil have a look and ask him if it is possible to have them taken off.

Try T-Cut, did the trick on my car.

Too late for T-cut some of the chrome is missing.

Did anyone have success on this ? I can see one spot weld from underneath so believe they are removable

Mine were not cared for previously and thus I have some of the chrome chipped off around the tip area

Maybe it changed. - I thought they were stainless on mine, but maybe they used to be chromed.

Most places are moving away from Cr(VI) chroming what with it being a carcinogen, so newer chrome plating tends to be not as good.
