My 2.5 16 is lovely but the exhaust is really too refined and I'd like something with a greater amount of rasp, bass and zing. Any simple aftermarket options? No desire to de-cat.

Thanks Graeme, it doesn't look as though those firms do a 2.5 16 now - all seem to be near or contemporary vehicles.

Any bespoke firms that people can recommend?

Not sure how far you'd travel but I'm certain that Ian's (Flango) recommended a few people to a place in Sheffield?

I'll see if I can find the thread.

It was Exhausts UK In Sheffield but I don't use them anymore as the quality of the work became too variable

I now use Tony Banks in Leeds who did me a perfect copy of a 208 Brabus exhaust in satin silver stainless that is on my CLK

I have had a further 3 exhausts done there as have many members on here and all have been perfect. It's a top place with genuine craftsmen who know their stuff and understand back pressure and gas flow.

There's a full thread on my CLK exhaust if you search, happy to recommend this place

It must be said, Leeds is higher up my list of desirable places to visit than Sheffield.

Last time I was there I arrived in the back of a chauffeur driven Bentley Turbo at 2 in the morning to visit a nightclub as part of deal due diligence, dressed in my best chalk stripes. The surreal bit was shaking each bouncer's hands as we walked in.

Sounds good!

The next job is to get more induction noise.

In the grim hobbesian world of the Slough backstreets you've got to be loud to survive...

I agree, Tony and Dave Banks are true craftsmen and did a cracking job on my car but only as Imran at Torqueflow was fully booked.

Torqueflow at MSL have to be a winner if you're near Birmingham :thumb:

EMP do good custom fabricated exhausts (St Albans)

They did a nice sounding (not excessive) one for my CLK 500 and a mad sounding (like a 1960's Ferrari) for my MR2 Turbo.

Having had it out for a long run yesterday, it really is odd how every inch of drama has been removed from the car. It's a bit like going to a James Bond movie and having a lecture on inheritance tax planning from an adenoidal accountant in a polyester suit instead. Little induction sound, really very muted exhaust note. Getting more of the former I expect will be expensive, the latter obviously not.

I just need to get the new suspension properly aligned and set up and the car is now pretty much perfect, although it would help if the central locking, ventilation fan and fuel pump would not start playing up!
