S63 in for a service today (main dealer) Had a look on Mercedes me to see if it was finished. Doors unlocked, windows down, so they were obviously working on it. Can anyone enlighten me why the windows were down. I noticed this last year also so it must be part of the master plan. Any answers chaps??????????
Given a new CLA 200 as a courtesy car, quite nippy, though not for me. It has a "gauge" in the centre of the cluster giving mpg but also an area for charge, which only works if going down a hill with foot off the throttle. Don't know what its function is??????? Thought they may have given me an electric thingy. Would have liked to try for a day, but no interest in owning one. Petrol is the future

Might lessen any chance of glass damage ? We always used to do it in the Fire Brigade.
Or the mechanics were just playing a game climbing through your windows in their lunch break ;)

Could it be standard practice, to obviate any chance of the keys becoming locked in the vehicle..?

Probably to let the internal smell of McD`s / KFC / Subway / burnt rubber / overheated discs + pads subside before letting you know it has passed its multi point inspection and is ready for collection , nicely warmed up.

Or , to protect the fragile frameless window glass from little accidents in the workshop.

I’ve had mine at two different dealerships and it happens each time, I only noticed in 2020 so could have been Covid related, and Covid is on the increase again.

I heard that your main dealer recently hired Beau and Luke Duke as MG techs. That could explain it.

They should have asked for references because they’ve been in trouble with the law since the day they were born.

I think it’s probably so they can easily switch the ignition on, or have more movement room to get in and out when putting the car on a 2 post lift.

I may be missing an important point here, but why on earth be concerned that the car windows were down while the car was at the dealers?

Not certain about this, but I will hazard a guess and say that its function is to show you fuel consumption and charging rate.
Happy to be corrected.

In the early '80s my mates and I used to climb out of the windows of my Fiat 126 (the "Mean Machine") and tell people the doors were welded shut to stiffen the bodyshell and improve the handling :D

And start a thread on it.
Because I was interested to find out if there was a reason for it. Obviously you were too or you would not have become involved or are you just the thread censor:confused:

I’m none of the above but I do have a sense of humour though. 😏😏

When I saw the thread title I was indeed interested. Then I saw that you were concerned the windows were open, and wondered why. Reading further I saw that you were unsure what a gauge that indicates fuel consumption and charging rate was for, and concluded that you were probably posting under the influence and lost interest.
