F1 2019

Vettel narrowly avoided having his only lap time in final qualifying deleted for "abusing track limits" at the final Parabolica corner. This due to extra scrutiny at the corner following the removal of the kerbing or launch pad as Alex Peroni now prefers to call it. S.V. pleaded extenuating circumstances in so far as he was driving a Ferrari at the time of the alleged incident.;)
Unless there was a better camera angle, the shadow obscured the tyre/white line area, so no way the stewards were going to through out the only quick lap by Seb. They have families and homes to go to afterall...

2 possible options.
- all lisp times have to be within x% of previous / best time for that driver
- superpole is one car at a time

In fairness to the F1’s series, this is probably a unique situation in the calendar. 90% of the circuits you require space between cars and not to follow too closely to get the best time. Monza is 80% full throttle and unusually the tow is more powerful than the normal disruption caused by ‘dirty’ air in high speed turns. Add that to the wide wings of the current regs and this is one of the regulations unintended consequences.
They have year to work out how to avoid this debacle in 2020!

Bring back the single car qualifying. One car on the track at a time. Qualifying order the reverse of finishing in the previous race, or perhaps drawn on the day?
I quite liked the era when teams had qualifying cars and race cars, with a spare for each driver.
Budget caps for 2021, fine but then allows teams more (total IMHO) freedom in designing the cars, allow the more ingenious/inventive (all within the budget) to shine..

I was at Silverstone in 2004 with that Qually format Peter and watched MS spin his Ferrari on purpose putting him in last place. Meaning he was first to run (reverse order) in the next round because bad weather was due.

Every team has always stretched the regulations to the max. Whatever Qually format there is the teams and drivers will always exploit the loopholes.

I personally see today as a one off and everyone will learn from it. However, two Mercs in a Ferrari sandwich will hopefully give us an exciting opening stint in tomorrow’s race.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing Max scythe through the field.

Hoping Lando can squeeze into the points too.

For Q3. Order for leaving the pits decided by lottery, set them off at ten-second intervals with a maximum allowable outlap time of 120% fastest lap in Q2.

To be fair there’s only a few circuits where this will be the case. They’ll all be wanting clean air the next few races.

Nico Hulkenberg, Lance Stroll, Carlos Sainz reprimanded after Italian GP qualifying

Reprimand for just three drivers but no penalties. Seems strange to single out just those 3. They were all playing silly beggars. Any of them could have found their way to the front if they really wanted to beat the flag, albeit without a tow.
It would also have been interesting to see the reaction if Lewis had been on pole instead of Charles. With a Ferrari on pole, the stewards weren't going to make any decisions that would mess that up.

Maybe they could have started them all from the back of the grid for bringing the sport into disrepute? Would have made for an interesting race and would discourage similar Q3 silliness again.

Good race, Charles just about kept it legal with his defending. I don't understand why they didn't give Lewis 'Overtake' (Strat 11) but Bottas was allowed to use it in the last couple of laps?

Great race. Awesome podium celebrations. Love the Italian passion. Love the way they sing their anthem with pride.

Gutted for Carlos and McLaren again. Missed out on solid points (again).

Happy for Renault, especially Fun Guy Danny Ric.

Wondering what Seb is thinking about his young, new breed teammate and how the pecking order has definitely swapped.

Glad to see the stewards consistency of late in allowing harder racing. Long may in continue. :)

Yep, great drive from Charles, could easily have picked up a penalty but glad he didn't.

I think Seb is toast. He may have a contract for next year, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone else got the seat.

Considering CDeC was already on a black and white flag, wonder why he did not get a slap on the wrist of some kind for cutting the chicane and maintaining an advantage over LH. Whether LH's tyres would have lasted long enough if CDeC was given a 5 sec penalty is debateable, but kudos to MB for pitting LH for a set of softs so he got the extra point for fastest lap! Mind you, also wonder why MB sent LH out on a set of intermediates when Ferrari a lap later put CDeC out on hards!

I wonder if the recent death of his friend Anthoine Hubert has stiffened Leclerc's "resolve" somewhat, and recalibrated his competitive thinking? Along the lines of
" Bloody hell I could get killed doing this----well if that's the case I may as well win a few races in the process!"
Of course that heightened awareness can work against you too and you become more "Risk Averse" which is possibly why Sebastian Vettel has lost his edge recently. All evidence would point to a psychological change of some kind.

......Mind you, also wonder why MB sent LH out on a set of intermediate’s when Ferrari a lap later put CDeC out on hards!

I think you mean Medium’s. ;)

MB fitted them to LH’s because that tyre worked well for them on the long runs on Free Practice on Friday. Ferrari fitted the Hard’s to LC’s car for the same reason.

To be honest even if LH or VB overtook LC it’s quite possible he’d have got the place back with the Tow, DRS & their current (apparent) power advantage.
