F1 2019

No it's just the other guys are taller especially Mattia Binotto.

I really don’t see Alonso returning to a Mclaren seat, but given the engine news, and the success that he and Renault had when simple focussing resource on itself, maybe he could return and go for title 3 ...

Just an idea .... ;)

I hope that Alonso does not return to McLaren. He can surely drive, but he doesn't seem to be able to build things. Instead ends up undermining his own team and team-mate. He's had plenty of opportunities and burned most of them. All IMHO of course.

I do hope he returns. He definitely helped Mclaren get to where they are, he got more out of the car when he was in it. He has hinted that he will look at 2021 when the regs change but McLaren have a good driver line up and it would be a shame if it was at the expense of one of them.

Win 82 for LH and a good result for Mercedes to get a one/two despite how quick Ferrari were on the straights. Bottas was rock solid even with CLC piling on the pressure in a faster car.

Interesting radio messages between the Ferrari drivers and the pit lane before the first pit stops. Multi 21 Seb deja vu even though SV was pulling away and increasing the lead from the off? SV getting driver of the day - I thought that should have gone to Sainz or even Albon.

Another 10 race wins for LH to take the most GP wins.

As for Alonso coming back? I like him as he is quite a character and matured so much from his early stroppy days but the guy has had so much bad luck changing from teams that eventually got going. Or you could look at it and say he was the one to get them going. Either way I think F1 rules for testing and development haven't done the teams any favours. Why restrict teams that now take them to mid/end of the season to catch up when it could be done sooner. I'm also not a fan of the tyre rules and regs and think that bringing refueling is good along with increasing the engine, k's, etc to double the current quota would not have us seen the last ghastly slow race. Let racers race.

Well Charles was at it again, blurting out on team radio when he said he would no longer do that after the last race. Plan or no plan, Seb would have taken him and was then quicker. I do think Ferrari hung Seb out to dry pitting him late, but they denied it of course. Good result for LH, he kept within touching distance of the red cars to enable him to get the win. VB did well to keep Charles behind him, I didn't think he would as he hasn't been the strongest at feding the Ferraris off.

Next race Japan where MB can seal their 6th constructors title in a row

Interesting race,SV was right not to slow up and let CL in front it was up to CL to catch up he could not, then we get all the radio traffic, what I think it shows is that Ferrari have turned the wick up on their engine but it cannot last the race so they have to turn it down again, because we have them .500 sec faster at the start and unable to catch the mercedes at the end, also SV had to park his car under orders instead of limpimg back to the pits.

Totally enjoyed the whole race weekend. Intriguing strategies by the teams and glad to see McLaren scoring some solid points.

McLaren-Mercedes for 2021.

...and the more Lewis practices, the luckier he gets? (With apologies to Arnold Palmer)
Mercedes continue to increase their lead in the manufacturers title and Lewis in the drivers.
I enjoy the increased competitiveness of other teams and it bodes well for the coming races.

IMHO it was Mercedes strategic decision to use Mediums for Quali 2 having seen Ferrari run on Softs in Quali 2 that won them the race, especially when LH's pace on mediums was so close to Ferrari's on Softs.

I must confess that when CLC pitted for soft tyres under the last SC I thought Ferrari had pulled a master stroke. I imagined the Mercs (especially VB) would be sitting ducks on the straights. Impressed to see VB quite comfortably kept him behind.

Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Hmmm...

Second race in a row, Leclerc moaning "It's not fair, let me win."
.

To be fair, if they had a pre race plan/deal then he had a good point. They ‘engineered’ the switch by keeping Seb out a few more laps than was necessary. Ironic that Sebs issues went on to cost CLC the race win.

These new hybrid cars use the system to enable the drivers to reverse (without an actual reverse gear). So, why didn’t/couldn’t Seb (any driver) reverse off track and avoid the safety car???

Amongst the reasons would be:
  • Rear visibility. Imagine about 10% of that you have in a road car with zero rear 3/4 vis.
  • The gate off the circuit was closed
  • But mostly, the car was already shut down after the urgent request from the pitwall.
  • Add that to the disposition of a high adrenaline driver just eliminated from the race lead...and you see it might be not such a good idea!

Is Allan McNish a dwarfy ?

'McFish' is one of the more 'compact' F1 drivers. A similar stature to Jackie Stewart, Alain Prost. Philipe Massa and Ant Davidson.
.....and me and Johnny Herbert:p
PressConf_002.jpg

He'd fit right in to the Moto GP paddock where Marc Marquez is directly comparable...and close to the MotoGP average!

A friend's theory on why race drivers are short is that when their parents realise they are handy in a kart at a young age they then make them sleep in a small bed - a bit like Chinese women used to have their feet bound.
