F1 2019

I enjoy the increased competitiveness of other teams and it bodes well for the coming races.

It's great that LH now as a relative senior is still so competitive and at the same time we have CLC and MV up there already and some newcomers with potential.

It's just a pity that the cars are just not a bit better matched on the track so that we could see them interact more cloesly rather than being tied to strategy and also when up front the impact on strategy of the relative position of their team mate.

My feeling for SV yesterday was that he 'done wrong' in terms of his team mate but OTOH to see him up front and motivated and with pace - we need more of that version of SV than the one who allows himself to be pressure and has minor fumbles that have major consequences.

Can't help feeling that LH is comforted by the situation at Ferrari. If CLC was undisputed number 1 and things had gone a bit differently over first half of the season then LH would now be looking over his shoulder worried about needing to finish ahead of the Ferrari because otherwise he could get reeled in over the remaining races. As things stand he'd need something like 4 DNFs or finishes outside the points to give Ferrari a sniff - and Ferrari would need focus on the one driver - which isn't SV's style when it isn't him.

.

If there was a pre-race arrangement (seems there was) then SV was out of order in not honouring it. My train of thought though was expressed by Billy Monger - 'Why would SV not just go for it (without a pre-race arrangement)?'

A breath of fresh air to see Ferrari challenging Mercedes - much needed. The irony of CLC losing his win to SV's safety car - you couldn't script it!

Had Charles pushed up to Vettel, then perhaps he would have been let through. As things were, he was a little too far back and Seb made a better start and didn't need to tow from Charles to take Lewis on the run to turn two. As for Seb disobeying team orders... Multi-21.

Now there's an idea:cool:

Instead of nerds hunched over computers working out strategy, why not ban them on race day?
If the team wish to communicate with the driver, do it old style with pitboards. They manage very well in MotoGP with pitboards.
Let the driver think for himself, make his own decisions when to pit. Viewing figures are declining despite F1 organisers coming up with different ideas each season and its easy to see why.
Spectators are not prepared to pay a fortune to watch boring processions and results engineered by statisticians and team orders.
It's not working, so why not go back to tried and tested methods that excited spectators. Pitboards, refuelling, a choice of tyre manufacturers, no DRS or electronic trickery that rarely makes its way in to road going cars. Jeez, why not bring back manual gearchanges and get the drivers earning their £40m a year:eek::D (OK maybe not)

Time for budget caps so lesser teams on small budgets actually have a chance.Ferrari and Mercedes will complain, but until it happens, the big 3 have it sewn up. So much could and should change to bring back excitement and viewers. Advances in technology and driver safety isn't an issue, that should be ongoing.

Seems we think alike:D
I missed your earlier post.

One significant difference from MotoGP is that there isn't really much of a strategy to play with. So position and gap to rivals all that's needed. In F1 pace on current or potential tyres comes into it more and timing for the pit stop.

Anyone remember A1 GP racing? All the cars were the same (minor changes allowed IIRC) but it didn't really take off. Seems it's the direction F1 is going.

It still looks the business even with that strobe light on the roof.

seems the 2021 rules are going under the bus again for another discussion, i saw the headline but its subscription only the actualy story........

i'm not sure what happens to C4 coverage if things are delayed / moved - i think they have to 'x' amount of hours after SKYs coverage.............

From what I read the greatest threat from the typhoon is likely to be on Saturday. If qualifying is cancelled on Saturday then most likely it will take place on Sunday ahead of the race. It's happened a couple of times before in Japan.

Qualifying moved to Sunday.

Just finished watching P2 where it's Bot, Ham, Verst, Lec, Vet, Albon then Sainz with Norris in 10th and Russell 20th.

Yep Qualy will be at 2am UK time and the race start 6.10am. If Qualy does not go ahead on Sunday morning then the FP2 results will be the starting grid
