Fan will not switch off

I have a 2001 E220 CDi Avantgarde.
Left the car parked at work all day from 08:30 till 18:00.
When I came back to the car the fan was blowing.

Drove the car home, parked it and left it for 20 mins, fan still blowing.

What's the story with this ?

yes, engine fan. I have had to disconnect power supply to fan to turn it off

Normally when the engine fan runs constantly a fault has occured and the fan is running in emergency mode.

There are two things that control the Electric fan.

1.Engine control unit
2.A/C control unit

The fault codes need to be read really.

A dealer visit or local mechanic ?

As Black it could be either, I have had a look at all three versions of your car and nothing Known, if there is a fan control box under the bumper the fault could be there with water in it
