Fault Code Reader

Imadoofus

Your's is no good as you need 3 different colour bananas, otherwise you will not know which one to connect to appropriate socket connection.

I will if I know how the box is constructed, and I label each clip (which has been done)

The colours don't actually do anything :);)

Top to bottom in my picture is Power / Test / Earth

I've run it thorugh a meter, and it works just fine :bannana:

I assume I just plug this all in and switch the ignition on?

TIA

PJ

With ignition switch On and shift lever in P/N position, connect impulse counter.
Depress Start button for at least two seconds but no more than four seconds, read codes.
Read codes until first code displayed appears again.
Codes will appear in ascending order.
With On-Off Ratio Readout

**IMPORTANT** write the codes down...

Bang !! ;)

How does it work then ? there's only one LED in it ....

I guess you wouldn't want a faulty coolant sensor with 34 flashes ....

I'd have lost count long before that

They are all engine codes. 4 flashes is airflow sensor, not aircon.

You plug into different sockets for different modules.

Yeah, you're right. I read 'Air Injection' as 'Air Conditioning' for some reason.

I'm going to play with it in the morning, assuming it's not raining. Again.

Well it's tested now, and seems to be working perfectly :bannana:

Thanks everyone for their help.

I have no fault with the Climate Control (1 flash) and no fault with Fuel Injection / Ignition (1 flash).

I got no response on port 3 (fContinuous Fuel Injection), port 13 (Electronic Auto Transmission Control), or on port 9 (which has a circuit, but shouldn't apply to my car, as it's for Adaptive Damping and Roll Bar).

But I got an SRS fault. Front Passenger Airbag Squib :(

I assume I can't just buy a squib. Any other ideas?

Oh, and whatever you do, DON'T tell my missus!

Good to know it works and just as advertised, hey..

You probably can buy just the seat sensor but I don't understand why it's not putting the SRS light on. Maybe it's been fixed and not reset. Did you reset it?

A squib is a small explosive device, so I don't think it's the sensor. It's the bit wot goes "Bang!" Except mine might not...

Thanks Doofus. Did you reset it and why isn't the SRS light on.

No and I don't know.

I don't want to reset the fault code until I've fixed the problem, so I can show it to an expert if necessary.

The SRS light works as it should (comes on with ignition, and goes off after a couple of seconds).

I assume there's only one way to test the squib, and that involves a wheelie bin and some ear defenders :)

You should reset the code because it may already be fixed and just a historical code.
If it's still live it will come straight back up, but any fault on the SRS should illuminate the lamp.

That makes a lot of sense, DM.

I'll do that, thanks

Looking at the manual that Dieselman provided a link to, it refers to model numbers like this:

124.026 124.030 124.050 124.090 124.051 124.230 124.290
126.024 126.025 126.035 126.039 126.045 126.134 126.135

I know the first three digits are the "W" number, but what do the second three represent, and how do I know what I have got, and do I care?

TIA

PJ
