Took the plunge and have handed my notice in  today.

Am going into business for myself - how scary is that!

Its not as bad you might imagine. I have had my own company since 1979.
According to my accountant, there are tax benifits to be had as well, but I wouldnt know about things like that.:D
Whats a "holiday"?

fantastic mate!!! I did it at the end of last year, I come and go as I please and I earn twice as much for doing the same work!!!

holidays hurt with loss of earnings though!!!

As I have been self employed since 1952 I have found the life great but it is not for everyone.
For me I have loved every working day, never been off once in all that time through illness. Sure I have not had that many holidays but I have had some super times when working, so what the heck !! you cant have it always, and from what I have seen of life, many holidays end up in a divorce anyway

Good luck with the venture Matt - wishing all the very very best

Thanks for teh kind words everyone; not getting much done here today (what a surprise  )

Malcolm; I feel certain I will be asking for advise. it will be the dull stuff like tax (and how to avoid it).

Had just reached the point in life where I could kiss ring no more and I am sure we all know how that feels.

I will not be asking for any money (like you lot have any...you all have expensive car tastes!! ).

Off to Switzerland soon to drive a mates SLR....well you have to test drive one before you buy eh?;)

Well done. What are going to setup doing?

I wish you all of the best in your venture,, please ask on the forum about any subject that you may not be sure or confident about :):)

Well done. What are going to setup doing?

A number of things which involve beer, wine, ammunition and firearms (all legit too so no requests for a 'loaner' whilst you go and visit your neighbours to resolve any disputes you might have :D )

Should keep me busy for a week or so..presumably I can then take the rest of the year off and play golf..thats what the self employed do right??

LOL yeah right, wish I could take the rest of the year off and play golf - well, not play golf because I don't, obviously.
But I really should be doing a mile of bookwork, and am I? I think I already answered my own question!! This forum has a lot to answer to! :D

Mattc, good luck in whatever you do...

not brave enough to take the plunge my self

Jon

Seems like a good day.

1. well done and all the best Mattc.
2. Happy brithday to Zoe (Who you lot won't know but she was very happy about the box of choccies that found their way from Oban to Leeds)
3. I am about to buy a new flat, what I can live in, alone (And has single babe living in flat beneath, now that helps)

its one of those days!!

yes, I shall be on top.

well 1st floor, there will be a couple above me too.

She looked like she had a nurses uniform on too..

That will not trouble Mark as he likes people to look up to him :):)

I certainly make the most of it when I get the chance. Its so infrequent the novelty will never wear off.

Still, I have to live with being Tall, dark, blue eyes, with handsome athletic chiselled looks! Its not easy beating off women by the bus load I tell you.
