Finally I feel I have the car I purchased some 6 or 7 weeks ago... It went back into the dealers today for them to replace the rear window (heated window not working) and sort out the squealing brakes. I don't know of anything else that's wrong with it and so now I'm looking forward to years of trouble free motoring with only service and routine items to pay for 
I have to be honest and say while I wish everything had been right from day one I can't fault MB Swindon in their putting things right. It's not cost me a penny and they've professionally and politely addressed every concern I raised.
Just as it should be of course, but it seems reading this forum sometimes not how many Merc dealers respond.
Anyway... I'm delighted... Let the upgrades begin
