Gourbano atelier was founded in 1971 in Florence as a workshop for the restoration of antiquities with nacre incrustation. For more than 30 years there have been around 2,500 of antique things restored. This has naturally allowed experts to disclose the technological secrets of the ancient skill and, what’s more, to develop them. In 2000 upon beginning to manufacture their own products the workshop requalified as an atelier. In 2001 in cooperation with SV-Art a cutting shop appeared in Moscow where among others a Mercedes-Benz E 500 (W211) was finished.
The Mercedes-Benz E 500 (W211) finished by Gourbano atelier may be by right referred to as an extra fashionable automobile. It took more than 1500 man/hours to achieve such an aim. The area of 2650 square centimeters were laid with 5423 elements that is a superior ratio by complexity.
A professional incrusting cutter needs around ten minutes to lay one five or six angle element of 0.5 square centimeters.
The made over inner insertions of leather in the seats decrease the contrast and harmonically supplement the presence of nacre.
When finishing, black and white shells of the Pacific pearls carrying shellfish of 5-6 years old were used. Being a natural calcium-carbonate of single-crystal origin nacre is water and temperature proof. The polished surface is not covered by protecting varnish because due to a possible erosion of 0.01 micron per year a mirror-like gloss remains the same within tens of years. None of the 5423 elements can drop out due to the glue boiled of natural ingredients the recipe of which is top secret. Despite the massiveness of the finish it took less than 1,5 months to make it.
