My front drivers side door has been making a loud banging sound lately, coming from the catch that stops it swinging all the way round into the wing.

Oliver (BlackC55) gave me some (now proven) idiot proof instruction on how to fix it when i went up to his garage during the week, so here they are.

Firstly, you'll need to remove the bits of plastic and screws, circled in blue and green.

Next get something flat (i used a large flathead screwdriver, covered in tape so it didnt scratch the paintwork) and work from the lock on the right, round underneath the door pannel and up to the offending catch, popping the clips out as you go.

Lift the pannel up from more clips under the window and rest it by the door on its side (it's still attached to the side airbag by a wire)

pull back the white cover (i taped this back afterwards) to show the offending bolt:

You can see where, as it's loosened it's started to move back and forth, widening the hole it's secured through. I caught it in time, and it just needed tightening, but if you cant see it it's probably been pulled through. I'm told the best thing to do here is pull it back through and use a washer to re-size the hole and stop it from being pulled through when tightened.

Clip the pannel back along under the window, push the poppers round and put all the plastic and bolts back.

Now swing your door open and closed like a loon, remembering how satisfying it is to fix something yourself (sort of?!) :bannana: :bannana:

An excellent guide deffinatly one for the How To section

Have I posted it in the wrong place? How do i make it a 'How To'?

Forgot to add, I tried the electric window and mirror afterwards and they didnt work

Blind panic ensued, wondering which wires i'd caught or which connectors were undone, until i found the keys in my pocket..... not the ignition :D d'oh!

Thanks to both of you. My otherwise rattle-free W208 CLK is now cured of a most annoying rattle from inside the driver's door. Having read this thread, I investigated and found the cause to be the loose bolt described above. Job done in about 30 minutes. I love this forum.

Yeah it was, cheers :)

Shame the rest isnt like that really!
