I have one that is tempromental when playing cd's, but especially when reading a navigation disc.

Does anyone know of someone that repairs these units?

Thanks in advance,
Ricky

The COMAND unit has an inbuilt gyroscope, which must be aware of the angle that the unit is mounted in the dash. On the side of the unit is a special clip – different coloured clips are used for the different angles – if the wrong one is installed, navigation may not work well. These are the clips I am aware off: -
Car
Colour
Angle

E Class (W210)
Yellow
25 degress

CLK Class (W208)
Green
20 degrees

Reading this, it is highly likely this is the problem!

Anyone know where i can get the right one?

Thanks,
Ricky

I had heard this as well when I was retrofitting my w210 with comand. At the time I was offered, at a reasonable price a w208 unit which I have subsequantly fitted (3 months ago) and to date it works perfectly.

I don't know if it has worked for anyone else, but for me it was fine.

V12 the next time I come down to you we can slot your comand in to see if it's OK in my car

163 works fine in my 202 - at I guess about the same angle as the 210.

What have you got it installed in Ricky, and what's the part no. on the COMAND ?

sounds to me like a faulty CD unit. These are easily replaced . just prise off the top lid of comand, and the cd chassis sits at the top. undo 4 screws and unplug a couple of connectors .

problem is getting a spare one !

you could try MBEnzNL .

have you tried a cd lens cleaner disc?

cd reading errors are common problems with comand - not a gyrsocope problem...having the CD drives cleaned out is not as problem...a cleaning CD usually doesn't do the job properly.

greetingz,

Right, thanks for that info, tried head cleaning discs, no luck with them.

So the mechanism is coming out...

Next thing i need is the MB part number for the correct CD changer and also wondering about a tape dack that can be fitted apparently?

Unit i have is 208 820 3789.

Thanks Again,
Ricky

The cd mech is now sorted, reads fine.
Anyone know the part number for the cd changer?
And possibly the add on tape deck?

Ricky

Ricky . . . you can get two sorts of CD Changer - the smaller "203" glovebox mounted one, or the larger boot mounted version (which I have). Both optical . . . and I'll dig the part numbers out this evening if nobody beats me to it !

Thanks you sir.
Boot mounted one please :)

Hi reading through the posts I came across yours, I have a 2003 C230K with command that will not read Nav disc or any cd, tried cd cleaner to no avail, who did you use to replace your cd drive

I replaced it myself using the mechanism from a unit that had a cracked screen...sorry i can't be of any more help.

Maybe try here and see if you get any luck...they come with my highest reccomendation.

Jean Baptiste repairs them... they are based in London... they advertise in the Mercedes Enthusiast..
