Flasher malfunction

I have a 1991 SL500 and a fault has just developed which is causing all the dashboard panel warning lights and instruments to go on and off in synch. with both the left and right indicators when they are in use? This does not happen when the hazard warning lights are switched on.
I have tried cleaning contacts on fuses, relays etc but with no success.
Any help would be appreciated

The easiest way is to swap relay for indicators and see if that helped. Other then that I would recommend check the actual ind stalker.

Many thanks for your response. By"ind stalker" I presume you are meaning the indicator switch lever on the steering column?

Sounds like its a faulty earth to me. Although I dont know where to start looking. Sorry. Sounds like the indicators dont have an earth and are trying to earth through the dash or maybe the dash doesn't have an earth so its trying to earth through the indicators.

Thanks for your response Ched999k.Would it therefore be worth connecting secondary earths to the indicators and dash?

Geordiealan: that would be my normal thinking but I am new to MB and I know they have some very complicated CAN Bus systems and I would be VERY cautious about adding extra earths. I would say ideally you need a wiring diagram and then start with a multimeter and trace things through. Its a long process and nor much fun but its the safest method.
I am sure a MB expert will be able to assist more.
