Fog and the bonnet star

A big one
Driving to work through thick fog this morning, I found I continually needed to wipe the windscreen due to spray on the lower centre part of the glass.

I eventually worked out this was from fog condensing on the bonnet star then "raining" backwards in the air stream onto the screen.

I think this is terrible design and will be switching my Mercedes-Benz for a Rolls Royce Ghost at the earliest possible opportunity to be free of this problem.

Dash, do you have the part number?

This is an inbuilt design feature to advise you that you are going too fast in the fog.
At the correct speed, the condensed droplets go over the roof, and land on the screen of the B*W that will inevitably be up your ar$e.

Sorry Mike, they`ve been dicontinued by mercedes. My one`s aftermaket

Neither of my M-Bs have a bonnet star so I'm not afflicted by this terrible problem :)

I do question whether this would not also happen with the Spirit of Ecstasy on the Rolls Royce.

Perhaps a Kia would not have this problem.

Dammit, and I was just about to buy an E as well. Deal's off now I know about this - I'll be crawling back to Volvo.

On the other hand, you can get a heated just-about-anything-else on your MB. A heated star would keep the fog from condensing - and if it was hot enough it might just deter the hands that like to pinch them too.

The real problem is the spray from condensation on the star hits the screen on its lower portion where the the rain sensor isn't.....
So you have to wipe the screen using a switch.
This enforced manual labour could be avoided if only Mercedes were to cover the screen in rain sensors:rolleyes:
This design error in unforgivable and that's the single reason both my last two Mercedes have had no bonnet star......not!

B*W already think about these things.

Wow! That's, um, that's er, er...
