Recently I have been given a W203 C220CDI to look after for 3 months as the owner is away on holiday (nice holiday).

Anyway, amongst other observations, I have noticed that sometimes when unlocking the car with the remote, the fog lights come on and only switch off when starting the car.

Equally, when locking the car they also come on for ten seconds or so. When this happens at night, it dazzles passing cars and I was wondering if this was by design or whether it was a fault?

Anyone?

I think most Mercs do this now. They act as a courtesy light to illuminate your way to the front door of your house/garage etc

IIRC the w202 will do it when the alarm is set to a specific country, this is probably also true for the w210/w208 and any other car with the 1997+ EIS.

would be really cool to make the facelift W202 lights come when you unlock the car ...

It can also be turned off if you do not want it on, or it can on the W211 anyway.

how do u set this to happen?

This option can be tailored made via command system in the instrument cluster. The car must be in stop position to carry out the change.

How do you get a W202 to do this ?

IIRC, hook it up to a star diagnostic machine and tell the car it's a different nationality, the problem is I can't remember which country ;) . One of the countries (Norway?) makes the alarm "bleep" when you arm/disarm it :)

Arm/disarm bleep = Netherlands setting
