Hi,
The indicators in my (auto-folding) nearside door mirror have developed an intermittent fault. When the mirrors are folded in the indicator works fine, but as they fold out it stops flashing and the dash lights up with a warning. I'm presuming this is some sort of wiring fault where the cable has been damaged by the regular folding in and out. Is there a quick/easy way to access the wiring to check for damage?

Thanks,
JC.

Hi JC. youve got it spot on i reckon.
Although i dont know if its easy to spot, you might have to take the mirror off and have a good look for the wire.

I have just joined this forum after searching the net about this type of problem. My mother has a 2002/52 C180K and there is a malfunction message that the left mirror turning signal needs checking but eveything appears to be working fine.

I am not technically capable enough to do this work myself so presuming that this is indeed the problem does anyone know or can recommend an independent who can fix this for me at a sensible cost? I am in Bromley, Kent but happy to travel a reasonable distance if required. Thanks in advance.

After another inspection of the wing mirror it appears that the plastic cover over the light part only has been hit as there is a large crack in it. Perhaps this is what has triggered the malfunction warning?

Does anyone know if it's just a case of replacing this plastic cover and the malfunction message go away? Or will it need to go a dealer for it to be "cleared"? Thanks again.

folding mirror faults

the crack wont have caused the problem you have, however you need to dismantle the mirror tho repair the wiring inside the mirror so replace the light pack at the same time.unfortunately inside the mirror the wiring is prone to break (sometimes up to 7 wires ) 5 of which are colored black, this can very frustrating to work out but is cheaper than having to buy a complete mirror from a m.b. dealership. please note that the lights for the indicators are diodes and will only work with the wires the correct way around (yes they are both black wires)
good luck

Hi I have the same problem with the reflector light on passenger Mirror. When I start I have following TWO malfucntions:-

(1) L. Turn Sig, REFLECTR
CHECK LAMP

The Reflector light on passenger Door Mirror is not working. The MIRROR was knocked off by incoming car some time ago. There is a sight crack on the Reflector. The Electric Mirror is opening and closing Fine.

(2) TAIL LIGHT, R,
SUBSTITUTE LAMP ON

I do not know why this malfunction comes on as it seems the Right side light bulbs are all working fine.

Regarding 1st fault if you have now resolved it pleasse let me know

When you take the cover off, following Druk's instructions, you can see the wiring. In mine, four black cables were broken, three went to the indicators and courtesy light, and the other to the mechanism of the mirror itself. I soldered them back, after a bit of guessing, trial and error, and everything is now working fine. It's not an easy job and you need a bit of time. Also try and find another pair of hands. You are going to need them!
Regards.
Ted
