ok so it has got aircon but im not convinced its factory fitted but an aftermarket system, still it is very rare for a 200 carb model and will be a big hit in the african continent where there is still a strong demand for these cars.

That vin plate should not be screwed on!

I bet it's the right one though.

As has been said get some new petrol in the tank and it'll fire up. Petrol degrades after some months of standing.

Try squirting petrol down the air intake when the engine is being cranked.

As it's a petrol I would think it's worth about £500-£700 with MOT.

I have three W123's. They all have a screwed-on VIN plate. And it is slightly crooked.

It looks like a series 1 model built between 1976 and 1979 judging by the woodless interior trim and the round headlight lens type.

It looks like a factory original AC. Very very rare option on a 200: equivalent cost of this option alone was £2000 in today's money.

If mileage is genuine and it has a good history then it should make around 900-£1200. Possibly more if it does not have a sunroof (they leak leading to terminal rot).

By the way: the chrome air intakes below the windscreen as from the pre-1982 era: very hard today to get hold of these. They alone fetch about £50 on eBay.

Yeah, the "1982" does give it away a bit...

And you can see in the bottom picture in the OP that it doesn't have a sunroof...

And however much people on this forum may prefer coupés, the fact is that it's a saloon and the OP's intention was to gauge how much it might be worth...

The vin should be crooked but not screwed on, they should have a tappet...

Anyway, the car is worth around £150 as it is and with an MOT probably £500, but if its been standing it may cost a helluvalot to get it through one as these rot very badly without showing it....

Where is it? If somebody on here is nearby perhaps they could go and look at it to get an idea of its condition, or even sell it for her for a percentage.

... The car is only worth buttons. This site is for enthusiasts not car dealers who is are going to charge some ole lady a couple of quid !! Shame on you !!!:)

Sorry - I guess I have a mercenary streak.

I have no idea what the car is worth. Opinions here vary wildly, though - from nothing to those who are only interested in coupés, through clothing fasteners, to "possibly more than £1200" to a W123 fan.

I just meant that somebody on here (an enthusiast) might be willing and able to help out "some ole lady" to make sure she didn't get ripped off by somebody less knowledgeable and/or scrupulous (a car dealer, perhaps?). But I wouldn't expect anybody to do it for free. That's all.

I'm waiting for her son to call me (I have left my number-that's all I can do) once I get a number I'll let people call him.
