freshly painted!

I assumed there must be concealed tail lamps somewhere or other, but couldn't see them.

I believe if the lights are removed the car may still be driven in daylight and indeed will pass the MOT.

BUT

Should the conditions require lights you are stuffed!!

No, the car must have a working rear fog light (drivers side), brake lights and reverse light to pass an MOT.

You sure talbir? Did you read the link?

If lights are fitted they must comply, if not fitted or permanently disconnected no checks...

I think you may get conflicting information depending on who you ask and even which MoT station you go to.

I always thought that if any lights were fitted they have to work and you then have to have all of them, but if none are fitted and the vehicle is for use only in daylight then you don't have to have any fitted

Quote from the MoT testers manual which of course may be out of date :)

"This inspection applies to: all vehicles except those used only during the hours of daylight, and which are not fitted with any front or rear position lamps or have such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked If no front or rear position lamps are fitted to a vehicle, there is no legal requirement to fit any other lamp."

Concurs with the info from my link

But that won't apply to brake lights surely - missing brake lights even during the day is a danger.

The only non-testable lighting that i know off, in an MOT, is front fog lamps.

nope, chapter 1.3 of the same manual

"This inspection applies to: all stop lamps fitted. Stop lamps are not a legal requirement if the vehicle is not fitted with any front or rear position lamps etc. (see 1.1)."

so basically, if you've got no side/head lights you don't need brake lights

Whereas it might sound a bit daft, the daytime MoT exists for road going competition bikes (mainly) and cars - it's a grey area which has existed for years and one (as an owner) that you often have to correct the MoT testers about if you are "stretching the law" for a show/custom vehicle like the one pictured

Wow, that's unreal...even F1 cars have a flash light on the rear

Get away with murder with that manual !

but AFAIK that light on F1 cars isn't a brake light - it's only for use in adverse conditions - you wouldn't be able to drive a "daytime MoT" vehicle if it was raining as the law says you have to use dipped headlights.

I agree though, it would be a nightmare to follow in traffic

Hmmm, just my cup of tea, might see if he'd be interested in a swap?! :D

I have seen some modded cars with colour coded rear clusters and the light just shines through!!..

good work, but how can this car now be driven ?

I mean, he's blended in and sprayed over the rear lights !

He has just painted the rear of the car minutes before the shot because the road surface at the rear of the car is the same colour:D

IIRC, the F1 light is used both in rain and is also triggered everytime car enters the pits.

I didn't know the law required use of lights in the rain... !

Really ?
