If I hit a road hump a bit too fast in my 190E there is a loud "clunk" from the offside front, as if something has hit the underside. Car sits level, no play or wander in steering. What should I check first?

Cheers, I`ll have a look tomorrow. Why do we always look for the complicated solutions?

Possibility that your front anti-roll bar rubber bushes need replacing ??? relatively easy DIY job if you can wield a spanner or two.

Totally agree as I have just rectified a similar problem. Failing that look at the top of the shock absorber under the bonnet, has it got cracks in the rubber?

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Finally found that it was a broken coil spring, but right at the bottom and not immediately obvious.
