When i bought my CLS 6 months ago i thought that front tyres were a bit too noisy for a merc but i didn't find anything wrong with that at that point and kept driving.

But yesterday my friend who also has a merc said that tires ARE too noisy and the problem is there are some kind of bolts in front suspension that manufacturer puts in to stiffen the car up but they have to be taken away/replaced after car has gone through 100k miles otherwise they shredding inside of tyres.

Now this morning i went outside ad run my hand on the inside of front tyres and the are shredded to bits .You can actually put your fingers inside the rubber , you can fill a bits of cord too so it is quite deep!
I was surprised they haven't blown yet.

It is the same on both front tyres and the car drives perfectly ok (exept the noise)

Does anyone knows the problem and approximate cost involved (bearing in mind the car has done 85k of miles)

And is there a good garage in east London to fix it ?

Cheers

Welcome.

Your friend is talking a little bit of nonsense.

You do need your suspension aligned and the geometry checked...but stiffening bolts...pleeaaaassssseeeeee.

Depending on where you are....Wheels in Motion are the experts....Google them.

He means camber adjustment bolts.
If the car has coil springs, they have probably sagged a bit.

Do s211 e classes have them? I too have noticed that the inside edge of my front tyres wear faster and I've had my tracking done.

Camber adjustment bolts are not fitted as standard, but can be fitted if needs be.

Thanks for your replies
I had laser tracking done in january 2012 in quite big and reputable garage it did'nt solve the problem

Tracking will not fix it. A geometry fix will. Wheels in motion are the people.

^ It won't, because it's probably a camber fault.
