My 55 C220 CDi failed MOT yesterday due to noisy / excessive play near side front wheel bearings.

The vehicle test station, my local branch of a national AA approved service centre, offered to replace said wheel bearings at a cost of 129 pounds (plus the 54 pounds test fee.)

I queried the 129 pounds to replace the wheel bearings and was told that included 2 manhours labour and parts. I gave them the go ahead and collected my car last evening complete with new MOT Certificate and new nsf wheel bearings.

On reflection I beleive 2 manhours to be excessive to replace a W203 front wheel set. Can anyone tell me the official MB time allowed for this task, also the parts cost from the 'stealers'

Seems odd that a four year old car needs new front wheel bearings.

Are W203s known for having noisy/worn bearings so early?

What's the mileage/service history like if I may ask?

I wouldn't like to attempt it in less than 2 hours.

Mercedes front bearing Repair kit 2 BEARINGS+ GREASE +SEAL+ PLUS CAP £35-£40 at Inchcape---- remember the brake calliper and possibly the disc will have to come off and if they adjust the end float properly could take time.

Did wifes not a big job mb would probably charge 1 hour.

As they are an old fashioned taper roller bearing set up it probably just needed adjusting.

Got bearing from euromerc nick £24:)

Low mileage 34000. Full service history by local MB specialist independent. Unfortunately MB warranty expired a year ago.
