I didn't quite see what open temp was but regardless, by blocking flow to the rad the temp i think should rise to overheat. No plugs leaked or anything despite half hour drive. Only temp rise to 100c, no heat inside. Then heat comes in eventually after about 45 mins. Then five mins later the gauge goes down and then the air gets cold again. So it looks like the block doesn't heat it enough, either there is something else like other pipes causing cooling or what ? Oil etc is standard with only Bardahl no-smoke added due to lots of smoke.. Maybe low compression is causing lack of water heating ?The thermostat is 87 degrees on the earlier ones. Did you check the opening temp when you checked it on the cooker? If it was frozen, it would have been restricting flow through the rad, as this is the most likely to freeze. If the block had frozen, you would have been popping core plugs and water pumps ...
Is there plenty air coming through the heater, pollen filter may be choked too..
