FSH what a joke

What does "full service history" actually mean? We prefer to think it means all the required servicing has been done, and there's documentary proof of that.

I suspect that, if challenged, a sleazy seller could claim that it means that all the servicing that has ever been done on the car (the service) is shown in the paperwork handed over at sale (the history).

If one oil change has been done during the last 80,000 miles*, and it shows in the paperwork ...

I wonder how many people wanting to buy a car that is strictly second hand (not third, etc) are caught out by the common expression "one previous owner". That's the present owner, and the previous one, of course.

*My example sounds extreme, but I was horrified to find, some years ago, that my brother had never sent his company Rover in for any attention at all. It was still driving nicely ... at nearly three years old and nearly 62,000 miles ...

I have to agree, I always take FFS as a pinch of salt anyway,

but if the last owner had been paying to have the car serviced and they havent bothered to change the air filter, what else has been overlooked?

Aye, I always look at the details of each service. And it may be a bit retentive but whenever I buy a car it will get an oil change, air and pollen regardless of what the book says. Yes it's a 100 quid or whatever but I factor that into the purchase cost.

up date

Soooooooooo

fitted my new air filter yesterday and I have to say the difference from just replacing the Air filter is very obvious, the engine is smoother and more responsive but the most noticeable thing is the transmission shifts are much better and the gears dont seem to hold on as long before dropping down a gear, :bannana:

itll be interesting to see if the fuel consumption improves too

I would be checking the fuel filter next...

Don't be surprised at "FSH" I've met a couple of w/shop managers now that say that many people don't authorize the expense of a full service, its the minimal that's done by the owner and not the garage. I had a girl that thought a service on her A class was done when she bought it... needless to say at 7k it went bang and ground to a halt.. didn't realise that you had to have it service regularly.. on the bright side, most men do get a full service done, its usually down to the repairs that are avoided, brake pads, ball joints etc etc..everybody wants a bargain these days..

The MB service scheduled are designed to please fleet buyers.
Not the best care for your car.

This is why on every B service we change oil, air & pollen filters as standard.
Fuel filters included for the older models, but post 2010ish its additional as they are around £90 for the part.

@OP, aren't Crosland crap filters these days?

could anyone expand on what Bob said,

I have fitted the Crosland filter but cant help wondering what issues people have been having with this brand?

thanks

IIRC Crosland were a decent brand which made good filters. They were then bought out by ECP and the filters are made very cheaply compromising their quality although they still use the brand name.

I don't think they will fall apart in your vehicle but they are not as good as they used to be.

Anyone confirm I have the story correct?
