blimey my focus only averages 44 mpg i tried to improve it by 'driving to save the planet' but when it only went up to 44.7 i gave up going to show this to the fleet manager he might order us all a new merc but i wont hold my breath

Nice one! I've managed to get 47.1 out of my 2002 E320 CDi but 62 is pretty impressive!

I have driven a couple of thousand miles in the last couple of weeks, but none in my own S Class. Had to drive a rental 1.9 CDTI Vectra to Germany and back and in 1200 miles mostly at 75mph (ish) it returned a genuine 56mpg.:)
Spent a few days in France over the weekend and had a Polo 1.4 TDi. Despite all the normall stop /start holiday motoring in a mountainous region it managed over 70 mpg!
But on the way back to the airport on a mixture of main and Autoroute it came up with the figure 3.7L/100kms....that's 76mpg.
It cost nuppence to fill up and I checked, the fuel meter was very close:D
Return from the airport in the ML and back to reality with 35mpg best. I have some work to do with that one;)

6 miles in 1hr

Now do that over 100mls :D

Judged from the fuel consumption I assume the miles are measured from the front wheels while the rear wheels have probably travelled a few more miles during this trip. :)

I have a theory that the onboard display for mpg is set up by the marketing department so as to sell more cars. I have yet to find a display that is not a blatant lie! I would sugest that if you check the actual fuel used it is considerably different. My Vito regularly records 33 and 34 mpg but from new has actually cunsumed fuel at 26.8mpg...... unless of course either the fuel stations have delivered short or some scroat has been stealing a little from each fill up. LOL

Come and try my W221. The reading error is within 2% of the long term average measured from multiple fill-ups. Perhaps your car/cluster is not properly calibrated to the fuel injectors you have.

My worst was 12mpg from Heysham to Peterborough.

I filled the tank up in the IOM just before getting on the Ferry, my fuel light had been on for a few miles by the time I pulled up on my driveway.

It was a fun drive

Dave!
