Not wishing to hijack the Shell Economy thread, I have often puzzled over this one.

I drive carefully with a light right foot ... Claimed to cut 20 per cent off my fuel costs.
I use the new Shell Diesel fuel, claimed to improve my fuel economy.
I use Miller's additive , claimed to keep my injectors clean and improve consumption.

I fitted a special fuel pressure regulator, claimed to improve mpg by 10 per cent.
I fitted expensive Michelin tyres which claim to reduce road friction and increase fuel efficiency.
I fitted a new low-air-resistance air filter which claims to improve the efficiency of my engine.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY MY FUEL TANK DOESN'T OVERFLOW EVERY 25 MILES ???
:confused::confused::confused:

Ah, but have you tried the Acme Fuel Cap Evaporator Minismiser? During the summer it claims to reduce evaporation by 23.7% :)

The Law of Diminishing Returns!!

That must be the technical answer.
It's all these percentages that con you.

Saw a repeat of 5th gear a couple of days back (all these digital channels and still nothing to watch) where they drove a polo round a test oval in standard form. The car covered something like 61 miles on a gallon. They then added a number of fuel saving devices and even took the spare wheel out, costing several hundreds of pounds. The car went out on to the oval again and did about 55 miles to the gallon.

Back to the drawing board I guess.
